Just came back from SCBWI summer conference weekend. It was a blast, I met so many great members and learned a lot. The photo is of Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, author of Shiloh, and me. She is such a sweet lady.
Matthew, it was great to meet you and to see your beautiful books! I learned a lot from the conference, too, and came away really pumped to start a new project.
Nice picture, Matthew, was great to meet you and see your blog here. I hope we can stay in touch. I love your art! I have sent this on to an artist friend of mine. I 'm also impressed with how you've linked your story to your experiences and how you celebrate differences..good for you!
My mom told me that I started drawing before 1 (believe it or not). Ever since then, I wanted to be an Artist. Choosing my major was easy at first, but I struggled to find a concentration. Illustration seemed a better choice than the rest because I thought there was a lesser chance of starving to death.
Consequently I’m a freelance illustrator and a Senior Graphic Designer and a published author of two books - BE GENTLE WITH THE DOG, DEAR! and PANDA AND POLAR BEAR. Despite all that I do, I don’t consider myself an over- or under-achiever; I guess that puts me in the middle of being just an achiever.
In all that I do, I make prayers and meditations in the Bible a priority. Without reliance on God, I know that I would not be where I am today. I strive to be a good person and I want my arts and writings to reflect what I want to be.
